Rain Gutter Leaf Guards in Operation

The placement of leaf-guards on the rain-gutters was the subject of some debate at a recent construction committee meeting.  The concern was raised that the guards themselves would get clogged if they are not attended to.

Pictured, left, is an example of a leaf guard on the back of building 40, where the leaves rapidly and constantly clogged downspouts until the leaf-guards were installed.  You can see some small amount of debris stuck in the guards, but they are otherwise quite clear and the gutters remain very functional (click on the picture to get a larger image and closer view of the leaf guard). Since the leaf guards were installed approximately one year ago, they have not required any further maintenance.

In contrast, the rain-gutter on the back of building 35 has no leaf-guard and just three weeks after being cleaned by the maintenance crew it became clogged to the point that water overflowed the sides rather than drained out the downspout.

A previous flyer indicated that there was to be a Special Assessment on October 2nd to raise the money to install the leaf-guards.  There is no work, yet, if that Special Assessment has been passed.
